2024 Europeans – YC Carnac

26th, 27th & 28th April 2024

With the Hurricane fleet heading over the channel in 2024 for its first Europeans in several years, hoping to be joined at YC Carnac by a few continental 5.9s and the rest of the Eurocat event, we have put some information to know around travel into and out of Europe.

Insurance

Obviously we are required to be insured here in the UK but it is worth double checking with your policy provider for both your boat and car that you are covered overseas. Most cover short durations or it can be added on for a small fee. Whilst your looking at it is worth checking your breakdown cover, covers both your car and trailer whilst overseas. Having sat through the winter it is worth also giving your trailer a thorough check over and service. You will also need GB stickers on your vehicle and Trailer

Ferrys

The biggest cost for most heading overseas and the easiest way to cut that cost almost in half is to double stack. Most single stacker trailers are sturdy enough to carry two boats, so teaming up with another boat to travel together is a sensible idea. When stacking the boats it is recommended the top boat is supported only on the main beams and not on the decks. If your not sure then Andy Webb can supply supports which sit neatly on the beams and support the upper boat. The masts generally thread through between the boats (under the upper dolphin striker) so be mindful of your car size and the mast crutch height.

Your ferry choice will depend somewhat on where you are based. The Plymouth/Roscoff route is a longer, less frequent ferry journey and so more expensive but gets you closer to Carnac. Those travelling from outside the South West, may wish to look at the shorter crossings. We are also looking into discounts as we start to organise, but there are ways such as Brittany Ferries Club Voyage to save some further money.

We have set up an event WhatsApp group to help answer all these questions, have people team up and share the best practises for getting these boats loaded up. To join send me your name and number through the contact page

Border Travel Requirements – Temporary Admission to the EU

Gone are the days of just towing a boat into the EU and back. The RYA has a page regarding boating abroad and you can find further information on Travelling abroad towing a boat (for non-commercial purposes) here

The current guidance for the RYA is to have a  Annex 71-01 of the UCC Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2015/2446 form prepared ahead of travel along with your return ticket. Please make sure you read and understand the above guidance well in advance of travel and if you have any questions, please do ask. We have plenty in our fleet whom have taken boats abroad in the last year who can help settle any nerves.

Accommodation

There is plenty of choice for accommodation and currently we are looking at staying here
