15 Hurricane 5.9 SX teams visited Stone Sailing Club on the weekend of 24/25th July for the second Hurricane TT event of the year.

After rigging up in 28knots and thunderstorms, race 1 went underway when the wind started to abate. 7 boats completed race 1 with Alex Farrall and Howard Warrington taking the bullet followed by George Reed and Charlie Dixon.

With the rest of the fleet joining for race 2 as the wind eased and the tide started to turn, there was some fast exhilarating racing with locals Jack Tindale and Lee Saunders taking first from fellow Stone Sailing Club duo of Richie Hanmore and Matt Kimber.

Race 3 saw wind against tide creating some steep chop and exhilarating conditions with Thorpe Bay boat Julian Reichert and Jeremy Sandford leading from start to finish with Richie and Matt taking another second.

The final race of the day was dominated by the three home boats as the tide picked up even more and bodies started to tire. Trevor Bawden and Tom Wass triumphed with Jack and Lee close behind.

Sunday dawned bringing light winds and hangovers for a lot of the fleet. Race 5 saw the Starcross boats of Doug and Eloise Smith and Ben and Kez Cutler-Sharp trading places throughout, with Doug and Eloise narrowly taking the win.

The final race saw a big shift in the first lap with locals Richie and Matt taking full advantage and the win followed by Trevor and Tom to round off an outstanding regatta for the local boats.

Overall, it was a classic Hurricane TT with every race being won by a different boat and lots of close racing in a competitive class. Great fun was had by all both on and off the water, with friends being reunited after missing last years Covid disrupted events. The next event is the National Championships at Thorpe Bay on 21-23 August.

Thank you to the Hurricane Association sponsors Forward Wip, Sailing Chandlery, M2 Graphics, Andark and AW Sailboats.
