Hurricane Nationals 2023 – 18th-20th August
I am pleased to confirm that the Hurricane Class Membership are cordially invited to attend the 2023 National Championships hosted by the Harwich Town Sailing Club (www.htsc.co.uk), racing to be held from Friday the 18ththrough to Sunday the 20th August.
The pre-event planning has kicked off to a good start, the club has secured the use of the public green adjacent to the launching area which facilitates boat parking, rigging, camping, motor homing or caravanning and car parking. This is the key to making the event affordable, sociable, practical and we hope……successful !
This will be the third time the Harwich Town S.C. has been selected to host the Class Championships. Notable events in the past yielded a fifty boat turnout and the arrival of the tail end of a Hurricane weather system that prevented two days racing out of four. We are hoping for maximum support from the fleet turnout wise and no extreme weather events this time!
The Hurricane Class Association Committee will once again work hard with the host club to make sure all the necessary ingredients are added into the mix to produce a top quality event both on and off the water.
Looking ahead there is a provision for a training day on Thursday the 17th to brush up on your boat handling and tuning knowledge.
Harwich has a lot to offer those that are not able to go afloat, the old town is steeped in Maritime History, Dovercourt Bay has lots of great amenities to keep families busy including a Blue Flag Beach which is a great vantage point to view the racing.
To nurture the après sail atmosphere the Club is planning to organise catering within the entry fee so that we can all keep together for a good social, the Bar Manager has assured me that unlike the last visit, you will not be able to drink the bar dry this time ….hmmmmm, sounds like a challenge there !
More news snippets to follow as the event planning unfolds, now is the time to secure accommodation, there are plenty of pubs, Air B & B’s, B&Bs, hotels to choose from, most within walking distance of the Club. If you would like to reserve a space on the green, please drop me a line and let me know what mode of accommodation you plan to bring/set up.
